SUSIM – Swansea University

As part of a suite of new state-of-the-art teaching facilities at Swansea University, we have created the world's largest installation of immersive simulation technology.

This education model is at the forefront of SUSIM, the University's groundbreaking simulation and immersive learning program.

The former Haldane building on the Singleton campus has been transformed into a pioneering centre featuring eight immersive simulation suites, with three more under development at the University’s St David’s Park campus in Carmarthen.

Directing the SUSIM project is Professor Jo Davies, Director of Simulation Education for the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. She states that students across healthcare courses will benefit from highly realistic scenarios and hands-on learning opportunities.

Building on Swansea University’s excellence in teaching and research, the vision for SUSIM is to deliver world-class simulation-based education, innovation and research in this rapidly expanding field.

The immersive suites build on successes in simulated patient resources and emerging extended realities, supported by a highly skilled technical team led by Mark Hughes. The work is gaining recognition worldwide, and the SUSIM team will present at upcoming international simulation and healthcare education conferences.

Using immersive spaces will bring more opportunities to collaborate with global leaders in simulation, advancing significant developments in learning and training safer, more skilled healthcare teams.
