In the summer of 2024, Good Samaritan Hospital, a 99-bed facility in southwest Indiana, introduced an interactive immersion room to transform education in healthcare.
This 12×12-foot space leverages 360-degree video and imagery, dynamic lighting, soundscapes, and even scent integration to create a truly immersive learning environment.
To further reinforce preparedness, educators photographed the MH cart and designed a search-and-find activity to help staff familiarize themselves with its critical contents. Additionally, the training incorporated hands-on practice with mixing medications in a safe, controlled environment.
Aspiring healthcare professionals can now experience restricted or sensitive areas of the hospital through immersive photography, providing them with a realistic glimpse into the profession. This initiative not only fosters interest in healthcare careers but also has the potential to attract future employees to Good Samaritan Hospital.
The success of Good Samaritan’s immersive learning model highlights the transformative potential of digital education in healthcare. By merging virtual and real-world experiences, the hospital has elevated staff training, improved knowledge retention, and enhanced recruitment efforts, paving the way for future innovations in clinical education.
